The Root River State Trail is groomed for cross-country skiing when we have sufficient snow.
On the Root River State Trail there are 30 miles of set track from the Isinours Forest Recreation Area in Preston to the bridge outside of Houston. On Harmony Preston Valley State Trail grooming is completed from Isinours junction to Co Rd 16 – about 12 miles.

All skiiers aged 16 or older must have a ski pass to ski on groomed trails in Minnesota state parks or state forests, or on state or grant-in-aid trails. Sign your ski pass and be sure to carry it with you every time you go skiing.
Ski Rental is available at Cedar Valley Resort in Whalan. Ski rental costs are $10 for the first 2 hours, $2 for each additional hour, max $18. Includes skis, boots & poles. Rentals are first come first serve. Call 507-467-9000 or visit cedarvalleyresort.com for more information.
