Preston, the county seat of Fillmore County, is a scenic town of 1,400 located in the Root River Valley and home of the National Trout Center. Preston offers a peaceful, small town atmosphere close to many interesting and recreational activities in southeast Minnesota’s Historic Bluff Country.

Preston has convenient access to over 60 miles of scenic, paved trails on the Root River and Harmony-Preston Valley State Trails. It is located in the “Driftless Area” of southeastern Minnesota, a mecca of karst geology, hardwood forest lands, wild turkey, white-tailed deer, trout fishing, agriculture, apple orchards, springs, brooks and streams.

Visitors to our city and area enjoy year round fishing, snowmobiling, canoeing, tubing, tennis, bowling, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding and golfing.

Preston is a vibrant business community, providing a wide array of goods and services. Whether for a weekend or a life time, Preston has much to offer.
