(ABC 6 NEWS) — Advocates in Southeast Minnesota are looking for a mix of state and federal funding to give relief to veterans and their families needing extra care
Veterans from Southeast Minnesota like Ron Scheevel have been pushing for a local veteran home for almost 18 months.
As of now the closest veteran’s home is 100 miles away in Minneapolis.
“We are going to keep pushing forward until we accomplish this goal,” said Scheevel.
Tuesday morning, in an effort to push forward with planning representatives for Congressman Tim Walz met with veterans in Preston to hear their proposal for the $30 million veteran’s home.
“As they work advocating to get the funding from the state we’re here to make sure of that next step, all of those questions are being answered and to be supportive from the federal side,” said Shawn Scholesser, Military representative to Rep. Walz.
As of now veterans are still waiting for budget approval from lawmakers but said they will be grateful for any help.
Representatives said that the meeting does not mean that the proposal will be approved. It was merely a formality.
